SmoothyApp v2: Free Multicam, Local Captions and More Room to Edit

An editing workspace built around free automatic multicam switching and local captions, with image tools, music and optional cloud AI.

By the SmoothyEdit team

SmoothyApp v2 starts with the repetitive work in an interview edit: switch cameras when the speaker changes, then get the words into captions. The free desktop tools handle that first pass so you can spend more time shaping the conversation.

The workspace keeps AutoMulticam and captions close, with a compact sidebar and a shared header for each tool. Graphics, music and optional cloud workspaces sit alongside them.

Download SmoothyApp for Mac or Windows, or explore the workspace. The local editing tools are free and work without an account.

Automatic multicam is the starting point

A conversation moves between speakers. The repetitive part of a multicam edit is following each change and choosing the corresponding camera. Smoothy uses separate microphone tracks mapped to camera tracks to build that first pass.

Start with synced footage in Premiere Pro, assign a microphone to each camera and choose the cut timing. Smoothy analyzes the microphone activity on your computer and applies video cuts and moves to a duplicate timeline. Both microphone tracks stay continuous, and the original sequence remains available.

The workflow supports source clips and nested sequences. Effects and keyframes on the existing video clip instances stay with those clips. Nested contents remain shared references, so editing inside a nest affects every sequence that uses it.

This gets you to a rough cut you can review. Overlapping speech, microphone bleed, reaction shots and wide-angle choices still need your judgment. See the Multicam workflow or prepare a speaker-based edit.

Captions are the next step

Local captions turn a Premiere sequence or media file into editable text. Choose a language and Whisper model, transcribe, then correct the wording and cue timing. Find and replace helps with names that occur throughout an interview. Reformatting changes the subtitle layout without another transcription.

Drop an audio or video file into the caption workspace. Caption editors follow the writing direction of your text, including Arabic. Model choice still matters: a small model can mishear a dialect, and any transcript needs review before export.

For Arabic, see the Arabic caption walkthrough. Resolve Free users can save an SRT and import it into a subtitle track, without Premiere.

Caption models need an initial download. After that, transcription runs on your computer. Explore free local captions or read the caption workflow.

More space for the work

SmoothyApp uses a compact sidebar and a shared header for the active tool. The aim is to keep the current job and its status visible while giving the actual workspace more room.

Assets adds local background removal and image upscaling alongside SVG conversion and PNG exports. These tools use downloaded models and process on your machine. Stock Footage and Audio Library bring discovery, artist browsing and playback controls alongside Favorites and Staff picks. Online media discovery still needs internet, and individual media licenses still apply.

Updates remain a choice. The app lets you see what changed, install when ready or skip a version. Downloading an update and restarting the app are explicit actions.

Cloud tools are optional

Studio, AI Photos and Chat have their own workspaces. They use cloud services, an account and credits.

Studio shares a source across tools: Premiere, subtitles, audio/video or YouTube. It presents different result layouts for hooks, titles, descriptions, Shorts markers and other drafts. AI Photos works from prompts and image references. Chat supports attachments, streaming replies, an optional system prompt and account-backed text history. AI Photos and reactions use prompts and references to create images you can save for the project.

Those tools can help when you want ideas or drafts. They are never required for automatic multicam or local captions. Studio Pro is $5/month with 2,000 credits every 30 days. Read what you can do with Studio, or compare access on the pricing page.

Free tools without an account

The local editing tools remain free. No SmoothyEdit account, subscription, trial or credit card is needed for multicam or captions. Adobe Premiere Pro is a separate product, and the bundled panel connects the desktop app to your timeline.
