Common questions

Is the app really free? +

Yes — forever. The local tools are free and open-source (MIT). No account, no credit card, no trial. Studio's cloud AI is optional.

Which editors are supported? +

Premiere Pro is supported today. You can also export SRT subtitles and import them into DaVinci Resolve.

Does my footage leave my machine? +

Multicam, silence removal, captions, compression and Assets conversion run locally. Studio's optional cloud tools send the input needed for analysis, such as audio or text.

Do I need an account? +

No. Download, install, and it works with your footage locally. An account is only needed if you want to use Studio, the optional cloud add-on.

How does SVG import work? +

In SmoothyApp 1.5, open Assets, load an SVG and choose the output width and background. Smoothy renders a PNG and sends it to Premiere as a still image. You can keep the background transparent, export all loaded assets as PNGs, or use Save As for the selected file.

Are Stock Footage and Audio Library available now? +

Both libraries are available in SmoothyApp 1.5.1 for Mac. Windows remains on 1.5.0 while its update is being built. The interactive preview uses sample media and illustrative Staff picks; it does not play or download media. In the desktop build, online discovery needs an internet connection and imports go to Premiere’s Project panel.

Is every music track attribution-free? +

The current unofficial YouTube Audio Library archive does not supply verified track licenses. Check the specific track in YouTube Studio before publishing. YouTube’s official library includes standard-license tracks without attribution and Creative Commons tracks that require credit.

What is Studio? +

Studio is the optional cloud add-on. A free account includes limited cloud AI; Studio Pro ($5/month, 2,000 credits every 30 days) unlocks the full set, including Best Shorts markers sent to your timeline. It is separate from the free app and never required.

DaVinci Resolve plugin coming soon

Smoothy works with Premiere Pro today. A DaVinci Resolve plugin is on the way.
