Find Footage and Music Without Leaving SmoothyApp

Search Stock Footage, preview Audio Library tracks, keep favorites and import media into Premiere. A practical workflow with source and license checks.

By the SmoothyEdit team

A missing establishing shot or soundtrack can interrupt an otherwise flowing edit. SmoothyApp’s Stock Footage and Audio Library keep discovery near your project: search, preview, save the file or import it into Premiere.

The library tools are free and do not require a SmoothyEdit account. Search, streaming previews and downloads need internet. Files can also be saved for use in another editor.

Search for a shot with a purpose

Open Stock Footage and search for what the scene needs. Smoothy brings together results from Pixabay, Wikimedia Commons, Internet Archive and NASA. You can narrow the source when you want a particular kind of material.

Start with the story rather than a broad mood. “Coastline aerial” is a clearer brief than “beautiful video” when you need to establish a location. Preview the shot and consider resolution, frame rate, movement and visual tone before bringing it into the project.

Each source has its own terms. Check the source details for your intended use and keep the relevant link with the project. Finding a file through a free tool does not remove conditions on the media itself.

Audition music beneath the words

In Audio Library, browse music and artists, search by title or use genre and mood filters. Favorites give you a personal shortlist; Staff picks offer a smaller place to start.

Preview the track and use playback controls to find a representative section. A quiet opening can hide a busy chorus. Listen beneath the dialogue at a reasonable level and consider whether the track leaves enough room for the speaker.

The catalog uses an unofficial archived collection rather than a live connection to YouTube’s official Audio Library. It does not provide verified current licenses. Open the track in YouTube Studio to check availability, terms and any attribution requirement before publishing. Do not treat the archive as a blanket copyright guarantee.

Bring media into the project

Save the footage as an MP4 or the music as an MP3. With the bundled Premiere panel connected and a project open, Send to Premiere imports the file into the Project panel. It does not place the media on your timeline. Drag it into the sequence where it belongs.

That distinction leaves the editing decision with you. Choose the shot’s in point, trim the music and adjust levels against the picture. Keep downloaded files in a location you will retain with the project so the edit can find them later.

Keep discovery separate from planning

Studio’s B-roll ideas can suggest what to show, and SFX ideas can suggest where a sound might help. Those are cloud planning tools. They do not include footage or audio files.

Use a suggestion as a search brief, then judge the actual media in context. The B-roll guide and music guide cover those decisions in more detail. Visit the library overview to see both workspaces together.
