An editing question is often easier to answer when the source is close at hand. Which two sections repeat the same point? What does this interview still need to explain? How could this description be clearer? SmoothyApp Chat gives those questions a workspace beside the editing tools.
Chat is optional cloud AI. In the desktop app, it requires a signed-in account and available credits. It does not directly edit your Premiere timeline, and it does not replace watching the footage. Your local AutoMulticam and caption tools remain available without a Chat account.
Ask a question with a clear result
Start with the decision you need to make. Instead of “improve this video,” ask for three places where the transcript repeats an idea, with exact quotations you can find. Or provide a draft description and ask which statements are unclear to a first-time viewer.
Choose a model from the options available in Chat. The model and request affect usage. Thinking options can change how a response is produced, but extra reasoning is not a guarantee that an answer is correct.
The reply streams into the conversation. Stop when you have enough, then ask a narrower follow-up. Treat quotations, technical advice and factual claims as things to check against your source.
Bring relevant references
Chat supports images, PDFs, Word documents and text files through its attachment controls. Attach only the material relevant to the question. A transcript or a short brief is often more useful than an unrelated folder of notes.
Explain what the attachment represents and what you want from it. For a screenshot, name the editing problem. For a transcript, identify the audience and the intended length of the piece. Submitted content is sent to cloud processing for the request; this is different from local caption generation.
You can also set an optional system prompt in Settings for recurring preferences, such as a concise writing style. Keep project-specific facts in the conversation where you can review them.
Keep the useful parts
Copy an answer or save it as text when it becomes part of your working notes. Chat History lets you reopen saved text conversations associated with your account. Original attachment files are not retained as part of that text history, so keep the source files yourself and reattach them when a later question needs them.
History is bounded, not a permanent project archive. If saving fails, keep important text locally instead of assuming it will be available on another device. Use clear project folders for decisions you will need at handoff.
Pick the tool that fits the task
Use Chat for an open-ended question. Use Studio when you want a specific result layout such as Shorts ranges, titles, descriptions or a condense plan. Use AI Photos when the output you need is an image.
The Studio guide shows how these workspaces fit together. The most useful answer is one you can evaluate against your footage, audience and next editing decision.
