SmoothyApp 1.5: SVG Import, Editable Captions and a New Workspace

SmoothyApp 1.5 for Premiere Pro: the new Assets SVG importer, editable local captions, a collapsible sidebar and a more flexible Shorts workspace.

By Ali Bahrawy

SmoothyApp 1.5 brings graphics, caption corrections and Shorts discovery into a more comfortable workspace. The five local tools remain free and open-source. Studio is still optional.

SmoothyApp 1.5 is available for Apple Silicon Macs and Windows x64. The Mac build is signed and notarized. Download for Mac or Windows to use the new workflow. After upgrading, restart Premiere and reopen the SmoothyEdit panel; sign in again to use Studio with the updated secure connection.

New: an SVG importer in Assets

Bring logos, icons and illustrations into your edit without opening another design app just to convert them. The new Assets workspace accepts SVG, PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF files. Drop files in, browse, or paste an image from your clipboard.

For an SVG, Smoothy defaults to 1000px wide and renders a PNG. Choose another width when needed; the height follows the aspect ratio. Keep the background transparent or choose white, black or a custom color. Optional SVG cleanup removes metadata, comments and extra whitespace before rendering.

Send to Premiere saves the selected PNG to your output folder, imports it and places the still at the playhead on the topmost video track. You can choose its duration. Premiere receives a PNG, so keep your source SVG if you want to edit the vector later.

Export PNG processes all loaded images. Save As and Send to Premiere use the selected image. A file list and per-file errors make it clear what exported successfully. Read the SVG import walkthrough for the full workflow.

Captions you can edit before exporting

Generate captions locally from a Premiere sequence or an audio or video file. Then correct the words and adjust cue timing in the app. Valid timing edits update the export immediately.

The caption controls expose the language, model and transcription engine, along with line length, line count and maximum duration. Reformat your existing transcript locally without running Whisper again.

Transcript-wide find and replace helps with repeated names or terms. Search forwards or backwards, enable case or whole-word matching, replace one match or every match, and undo the last replacement. Save the corrected SRT or send it to Premiere.

A sidebar that gives you room

The five local tools have their own colored icons and a clear selected state. Collapse the sidebar into an icon rail when you want more room for the tool you are using. Smoothy remembers your choice.

Sign in sits above the Premiere connection status. Version, pin, Discord and Settings controls are together at the bottom. Tool actions have short explanations above the buttons, including whether they create a new sequence or work on the current one.

Shorts from four sources

The Studio Shorts workspace accepts an active Premiere sequence, a pasted or uploaded transcript, an audio or video file, or a YouTube transcript when available.

Choose Multiple shorts for several candidate moments, or Best part to focus on one. Results have separate title and description copy controls. Search past runs in history, mark candidates locally, and add markers to Premiere to find them while editing. Cancel an analysis in progress, or retry saving history without rerunning the analysis.

Local transcription remains free. Cloud analysis requires a Studio account and uses credits based on transcript length. Shorts results are clip ideas and markers to review; they do not automatically assemble a finished vertical edit.

More dependable local editing

The 1.5 work also improves selected-track audio extraction, clip timing, camera mapping persistence and handling of mixed frame rates. Silence removal can create a new sequence or perform direct ripple deletion when you choose in-place editing.

Review the output before finishing your edit. New sequences created by multicam and the default silence-removal workflow do not copy existing effects and titles. The app now explains this above those actions.
